Yey…I made it to Jakarta, the last stop of the Asian part of my trip around the world. My plane from Surabaya to Jakarta was more than two hours delayed, but I guess that’s what you get for flying a cheap Indonesian airline!! Anyway I made it to Jakarta safely and found a taxi quickly. Marta had warned me about bad traffic in Jakarta, but I had no idea what I was really in for. The taxi ride to Marta’s house took me about 3 hours and it was stop and go traffic ( well, more stop than go) all along the way. I feel really sorry for the Jakarta taxi drivers, I think they are high up on the list of worst jobs to have ( just like the taxi and bus drivers driving along the stretch between the Thai-Cambodian border and Siem Reap *gg*)!!
I have to admit though that I had pictured Jakarta to be a lot worse, or at least I expected the first sight to be different. While being in the taxi I thought that Bangkok looked a lot worse at first sight, but maybe I’ve only seen the nicer parts of Jakarta…and to be honest I’m enjoying it the way it is and have absolutely no intentions to find out about the bad parts of the city ;o)
The last two days I’ve really enjoyed the luxury of having a big, comfy bed and a clean bathroom with a proper shower and BATHTUB!!! ;o)
Marta took me to the American Club on both days, so I got some nice western food and a dip in the pool.
Because of a big demonstration here in Jakarta on Sunday I might have to move my flight to Australia to a different day because it might be dangerous to impossible to get to the airport on that day.
The internet here is kinda slow, so the upload of pictures will still have to wait a little.
